Itinerary Part-12: Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland

Dear Readers,

On my journey as a solo traveller across India, after having covered the mainland India and couple of the north eastern states (links to other itineraries at the end of the post), I'll now enter some of the remotest areas of India. In this leg of the journey I'll be covering three more states of the "Seven Sisters" -  the states of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland. Mizoram, which translates to "land of hill people", is the second least populous state of India. Manipur is the state which connects Indian sub-continent to southeast Asia. Nagaland is home to various tribes, each with a unique characteristic and culture.

As with all the other Itineraries,  I've had help from friends, fellow bloggers, tourism department of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland, travel companies and readers, providing me various inputs on availability of local transports, places to visit, places to stay, etcetera, to develop  this itinerary. And, as mentioned in previous posts, this itinerary is loosely based on various ideal situations. Thus, following it may not be possible due to reasons out of our hand during the trip.

Special mention of Koyeli Tours and Travels for providing invaluable support in making this itinerary.

So here's the itinerary for the eleventh leg of my All India Solo Trip of the state of Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland:

Day 1-2: Aizwal. The first stop of this leg will be Aizwal, the capital city of the state of Mizoram. To reach Aizwal, I would have to travel to Silchar (Assam) from Dharmanagar (last stop of the previous leg), and then from Silchar I would have to travel to Aizwal, the whole of which would take around 10-15 hours. Aizwal, the "home of highlanders" is located on the ridges of hills providing a picturesque setting.  Overnight travel back to Silchar.

Day 3: Imphal. Next stop, is the capital city of the state of Manipur, Imphal, a scenic city at the center of the Manipur Valley. Dense forest and vast grassland makes for an enchanting view.

Day 4: Ukhrul. Next stop, is the highest hill station in the state of Manipur, Ukhrul, center of the Tangkhul Naga warrior tribe. Beautiful valleys, hills, waterfalls and streams makes it a dream destination for nature lovers. Night stay back at Imphal.

Day 5: Moirang. Next stop, is the home to the ancient temple of Lord Thangjing, Moirang. The place also has a vivid cultural importance. I'll also be visitng Loktak lake on this day, which is the largest fresh water lake in the North-eastern India region. Night stay back at Imphal.

Day 6: Moreh. Next stop, is the Indo-Myanmar border town, Moreh, an important ethnic town of Manipur. Other than being a trade center for both countries, the surrounding mountains and rivers provides for a beautiful destination to enjoy. Night stay back at Imphal.

Day 7: Kohima. Moving on to the fifth of the seventh states of the aforementioned Seven Sisters, I visit Kohima on this day, the capital city of the state of Nagaland . A top destination for people looking to trek and camp, this place, a picturesque one, is base for some interesting treks.

Day 8: Dzukou Valley Trek. One of the best trekking trail near Kohima, is the Dzukou Valley. I'll be doing this moderate trek on this day. Beautiful plains with lush greenery, housing varied flora species on the edge of crystal clear water stream is a dream trail for trekkers. Night stay back at Kohima.

Day 9: Phek. Next stop in the state of Nagaland is Phek, which is occupied 70% by evergreen forests. The majestic mountains and the picturesque lakes which are rich in flora and fauna provides breathtaking views.

Day 10: Mokukchung. Next stop, is the home of Ao Naga, Mokukchung. The Aos have retained their culture and is clearly visible to visitors here. Coupled with the picturesque mountains with streams of running water, this place is sure to provide a mesmerizing experience.

Day 11: Mon. The final stop in the state of Nagaland, and in this leg of the trip, will be Mon, a place of rich tribal heritage. Situated at about 900 meters above sea level, this place enables a view of the Assam plains which is a view to behold.

From here, I'll be travelling to Dibrugarh, Assam, for the last leg of the North-eastern leg of my All India Solo Trip.

So readers, if you feel that I should change the itinerary in some way or other for me to move much better between places, please specify them on the comment section.
